Olivia, Lucas and a group of their college friends travel to Mexico for one last getaway before graduation. While there, a stranger convinces one of the students to play a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare with the others. Once the game starts, it awakens something evil a demon which forces the friends to share dark secrets and confront their deepest fears. The rules are simple but wicked — tell the truth or die, do the dare or die, and if you stop playing, you die.
Lastly, Olivia forces the demon to reveal to her whether or not there was a definitive way to end the game with Markie and herself alive. The demon reveals that now that Sam is dead, there is not – but they can draw more people into the game and prolong their turn in it. Olivia hastily records and uploads a video to YouTube, warning of the game and its rules, before challenging the viewer of the video to Truth or Dare, initiating them, effectively involving millions of new Truth or Dare players, therefore, postponing her and Markie’s involvement in the game for a very long time and saving their lives for the time being.
These truth or dare questions are tailored to each player, aimed at ruining their relationships (no the horror) or killing them (some horror). Thought the movie tries to dig deep into each character to find their individual flaws, it is a shallow attempt at best.

SUMMARY TRUTH OR DARE is a US horror thriller in which a group of teenage friends finds their lives endangered when they are unwittingly drawn into a high stakes game.
The Good

Although it’s not difficult to spot fundamental storytelling mistakes, what works for the film are individual scenes of real-world reliability. Each and every character has a well-sketched-out personality and they seem perfect for the parts that they are playing. They are fighting personal battles and are hence portraying characters that are interlaced with hidden layers. This element comes out very well throughout the story.
The set design in the movie screams eerie and this is probably much-needed.
What also comes out very well is how the revelations unfold, minute after minute. This undoubtedly adds to the storyline and uplifts the performances.
The main innovation of the horror was a good idea, it’s just not presented in a way where it would be scary.
This movie is aimed at specific audience teens and they will most likely enjoy it. Just as teens in the 90’s enjoyed ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ type movies.
The Bad

“Tell the truth or you die. Do the dare or you die. Refuse to play? You die.” I could leave it at this line but I won’t.
The truths are lame – come out to your homophobic father as gay, quiz your friends on who likes who, dare you to sleep with your best friends boyfriend. These are simple and petty truth/dares, that probably came from the mind of a young teen who could not think of actual horror plots. Why can’t these teens just leave – so many holes in the logic!
The movie overall seems like an unhappy marriage between horror and comedy. For just a game that got demonized, it feels a little stretched, as the thrill wears off towards the end. The climax is slightly tepid and the twists and turns that are incorporated feel slightly forced in places.
The face looks like a bad SnapChat filter. ACKNOWLEDGING IT DOESN’T EXCUSE IT FROM BEING BAD, YOU GUYS. Come on, Blumhouse! I know you can do better! I’ve seen movies you’ve produced with truly chilling special effects!
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH

Lucy Hale exceeds expectations with her performance throughout. Watch it for her! Additionally, the film makes you travel to the past and wonder about the what if’s of when you played Truth or Dare with your own friends.
So, Truth, Dare or Death? You decide!
What surely helped to reach this result was its teenager-friendly PG-13 rating. And as we can now see by comparing it to the Unrated Extended Director’s Cut, which is included on the home video releases, it was censored quite a bit for that rating.
I’ve been surprised before by horror movies that ended up being better than I expected, like Ouija: Origin of Evil and Annabelle: Creation. Plus, it’s from Blumhouse Productions, a company that specializes in horror movies, including the Oscar-winning Get Out.
